Start you day by getting a glimpse of life as it used to be lived through much of Bangkok. Venice of the East.On the west bank of the Chao Phraya River, the area has remained largely undeveloped. Hop onto aJames Bond longtail boatand enjoy a fun ride throughout the narrow canals of Thonburi, a former capital of Thailand. (The longtails were made famous by the chase sequences in the James Bond flick The Man with the Golden Gun, and they can shift when the boatman opens up the throttle)    Theses canals are a magical place to visit and are a remarkable contrast to the hectic pace of the rest of the city.   Bangkok lies a huge network of canals where hundreds of people go about their daily lives, just the other side of the Chao Phraya from the huge skyscrapers of the financial district but seemingly a world away

Along the way, there are numerous temples, shrines, restaurants and schools. Observe the locals going about their day. There are also mobile food vendors, selling delicious BBQ chicken with sticky rice, noodles, fruits etc.  Kids messing around on the water’s edge and taking a swim, jumping from bridges, giving a cheerful wave as you pass by. Get your camera ready right from the start as it is worth taking photo throughout the 1 hour trip.

Then visitThe Royal Grand Palace and Emerald Buddha Temple.  The magnificent buildings within the Grand Palace compound truly give you a feeling of the grandeur architectural style. Since the founding of Bangkok as the Nations capital by King Rama I, in 1782, The Grand Palace has been the major architectural symbol of The Thai Royal Family. The original living quarters were temporary and made of wood and thatch and the walls surrounding the palace were made of wood palisades.

In the same compound visit Thailand’s most sacred temple with the revered Emerald Buddha. The main building houses the statue of Emerald Buddha, inside the building it is marvelously decorated by mural painting of the Lord Buddha Life. Except for the Thai King, no other person is allowed to touch the statue. The King changes the rope of the statue three times a year, corresponding to the summer, rainy and cool seasons, this important ritual performed to usher good fortune to the country.
